How to import photos right side up?

My photos are all taken with with phone, so unless the shot is in landscape mode all the shots are *taken* right side up.

 

Much of the time PSE imports in landscape mode, requiring me to go through hundreds of photos and rotate them. Is there some way to avoid this? And does anyone have any idea why PSE is doing this? Thanks.

I assume your are talking about the files displaying in Organizer.  Check your settings in EDIT > PREFERENCES > FILES.  Check the box beside Rotate JPEGs using Orientation Metadata.
