How to turn of elliptical marquee

I use Photoshop Elements - a rather old version I'm afraid.

Very recently when I select the rectangular marquee tool and select the image I get a circular shape within the image.  I am not sure how to deselect this option.  It's driving me mad!  Help!

Most likely there is some Feather value other than 0 px (zero) set in the tool options bar.

If so, set to 0 px and then draw out the Rectangular Marquee.

    Pse 10 and older.

    pse 11 and newer

Resetting the tool to default will accomplish this, if needed.

On the tool's option bar, look for a little arrow, top left, and click on it to reset the tool.

    Hi

I've moved your post from the Photoshop forum to the Photoshop Elements forum.

It would be helpful if you can say which version you are using.

Could you please post a screenshot taken at View > 100% with the pertinent Panels (Tools, Layers, Channels, Options Bar, …) visible?
