How to type an arrow in a line of text?

This must be simple but I just can't figure it out.  

I'm making an instruction sheet illustration and have steps (step 1, step 2, etc.) for the user to follow. At the end of each step I need to insert an arrow pointing to a line.

How do I insert, or type, an arrow into the line of text? For example, "Step 1, fold paper on this line" with an "up" arrow at the end of that sentence pointing to the line.
