I'm going CRAZY! Photoshop Elements 11 character spacing problem

Photoshop Elements 11 doesn't seem to let me adjust character spacing in my text and it's spaced way too far apart. I've used the tool before and never noticed this issue, and I don't know how to change it. Please help!
