Import from Files Folders is not working [Organiser v24]

When I click import from Files/Folders I no longer get the dialog box opening.  Anyone else had this ?

Dialogs open for scanner etc plus I can import using the tree panel but takes much longer.

Been using on Win11 [23H5 I think] for 18 months without issue.  Elements/Organiser 24 download version.

Is it something simple or a back up catalogs and re-install scenario ?!

Yes, the only other option is probably to reinstall the program.  Sign out of the program from the Help menu and there should be no problem with the reinstallation.

Just a footnote - I opened up Organiser last night and found the 'import from files/folders' function fully working from either File or Import !  I haven't altered my system at all nor re-installed Elements.  Only thing I can guess at is a Windows update but I'm not an IT person so basically I don't know why it has started working again.  Happy it has though !!

Does the same problem happen if you use the File>Get Photos and Videos>From Files and Folders menu?  And you can also try the Ctrl+Shift+G keyboard shortcut.

 

If none of the options work, all I can suggest is to delete the preferences files.  Go to the following folder:

C:\Users\[YOUR NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Elements Organizer\24.0\Organizer

and delete the files named status.dat and psa.pref

One other option would be to use Watched Folders to import your files.

 

And if all else fails, contact Adobe Support.   You can start a chat session by going to the Contact Adobe Support page. (https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?rghtup=autoOpen) Make sure you are signed into your Adobe account and try typing Agent when the chat window opens. (If you use my link, the chat window should open automatically.)

Yeah tried the various ways to open the dialog - none work.  Deleted those 2 files but still not working.

The chat bot just lists ways to import assuming a perfect working copy of Organiser.  I have no adobe plan as I only use outright purchase of Elements/Organiser that's 18 months old now.

I'll have to use other methods or maybe re-install at some point if Adobe will allow me.

Are you being patient enough? If you have a lot of folders, it may take a while for the dialog to refresh.  Have you tried to use it immediately after a reboot?

Hi Greg

Yes I have tried immediately after reboot a few times but still no dialog.  I only import one folder at a time, maybe 50 photos at the most but usually just a handful each time. It's the way for me since Photshop Album 3.0 - yeah I'm old school !  No AI here !

I can import via 'bulk' and it works with 100's at a time when I tested it.  Just nothing from Files/Folders import. I have noticed when I click F/F import instead of the dialog opening the mouse cursor flickers a couple of times then nothing.

Could a windows update earlier in the week break it ?  I believe they have a reputation of messing things up sometimes ?!
