Question

Importing photos by date sequence using Elements Organizer

Way back in Elements Organizer 8, one could elect to import photos from a camera or card into folders by date choosing either (1) oldest to newest or (2) newest to oldest.  Somewhere along the way apparently someone decided that it would be OK to allow a choice of oldest to newest or new to oldest within each day's photos but by unchangeable default days could only be presented in folders in the sequence of newest to oldest.  Eliminating the importing date options previously available in Elements Organizer 8 has for years and thousands of photos caused me to experience extreme frustration.  I am not using the most current version of Elements Organizer but am using Elements Organizer 12 which, except for the aforementioned issue, suits my purpose just fine. I have searched repeatedly and extensively for a workaround to do what makes sense - import photos in the date taken within the day and across days.  I have found others that have asked the question but have found no workable solution to the problem caused by the nonsensical limitation of newest day first.  If someone knows how to get photos imported into folders in date sequence - oldest to newest - using Elements Organizer please let me know.

    Wrong.

1 - You don't 'import' in a given order, that makes no sense. The order has nothing to do with the sequence of import. It's a choice of how to display your files once they are uploaded. The only feature relating to dates when storing your files at import time is an option of the downloader to create date based subfolders on your drive.

2 - There has been no change in the way the files are imported on that respect. I just checked on my PSE6 version and compared with the recent versions up to PSE15.

3 - The change of DISPLAY order has been greatly enhanced without removing any previous choices. The choice you are mentioning was not introduced later than version 8, it was already present in version 6.

You may not want to choose the 'Show Oldest first within each day', but it's the preferred choice of most users.

Describe exactly how you want your pictures displayed so that we can tell which setting of the preferences (above) and in the 'sort order' choice in your PSE12:

(same window from PSE12 to PSE15 - The PSE11 version lacked the 'Name' option)
