importing to PSE 2023 from sd card

I have a newly installed PSE 2023 program on a brand new MacPro.  PSE is not recognizing my sd card although it is recognized by the Mac   It simply states no device is found    Any advice on what I am doing wrong or is the program defective?

I know nothing about Macs.  But, on Windows, when a device is not recognized by Elements even though it is recongized by the OS, it sometimes helps to relaunch the program.

Copy the files to your internal drive and then import to the organizer.
