Question

Is camera raw still available for Photoshop Elements 2022 if I were to upgrade my camera to either SonyA7V or A7RVI

I currently have Photoshop Elements 2022 and using a Sony A7IV camera.  I have camera raw version 17.2 which works perfectly with it.  I am considering updating my camera to either the Sony A7V or the the newer A7RVI and wondering if I will still be able to update to a newer version with Camera Raw 18.3.2 installer or newer one once they update the latest A7RVI.  My current camera raw works perfectly and hate the idea learning a new system and having to go to a new more expensive program.

Glen,It is listing the new 18.3.2 camera raw as an application not as 8BI file

You have the installation file  showing in your screenshot:  Install it.

You won’t see a standard “click me to start a program” icon-- adobe camera raw is a plug-in.

When you install adobe camera raw- it is a bunch of files that get installed, but all you need is one file- the 8bi file.  That’s the file you need to copy and paste into photoshop elements.

8bi files are plugins for adobe products.

When you install Adobe Camera Raw, it relies primarily on one core plugin file!--tgqphd||[]--> to function. The ACR installer package itself unpacks tens to hundreds of localized and library files!--tgqphd||[]-->, but they all converge into a single, primary executable file that Photoshop and Bridge use to read RAW image data.

The image below shows where to put the 8bi file (note the file location) --the actual icon/file you see is really for 18.2.2.

When I double click on it that is where it installs and remains in that format in the file format section after I sign an agreement to license.  I do not see the usual camera raw icon. How do I separate it.  I am on Pacific Coast time in Canada

I could not get the new camera raw to work---it looked like this and does not show up in editor plugins when I open PSE 2022.  I bought the  Sony A7V today and want to be able to edit my new and older photos in raw.  Any advice---thanks

Thanks Glen, that is encouraging  Well I was able download a year ago to use 17.2+ version when Sony did firmware update last year creating different raw size files.

ACR 18.3.2 works fine in pse 2022- which is kind of surprising to me--- you do have to manually install it.

Yes.  You can always manually install whatever version of Adobe camera raw you need.   Please be aware that the PSE is not as robust as the camera raw found in the full version of photoshop.

Thanks, you have helped me before in what the steps are, but was not sure it would still work.  So far my needs are pretty simple what I want to get out of it so quite happy plus I have some  add on plugins like Topaz.  It is just that I like shooting in raw.

For some reason I can’t edit my previous response.

NOTE:   EVERY VERSION OF PSE HAS IT’S OWN MAX LEVEL OF ADOBE CAMERA RAW THAT WILL WORK WITH IT.

What does that mean?    Those new cameras require ACR 18.2- which may not be supported in pse 2022.  You can install it all day long but it simply may not work in an older version of pse.

I will download pse 2022 from my Adobe account, then manually install the latest version of acr , which is 18.3.2 then let you know how it goes.
