Issues following Windows 10 Fall Creators update

I installed the Windows 10 Fall Creators update that was forced upon me, a process which took nearly 3 hours, and now it has really messed up the functionality of Elements 15. Most of the things I try to do are so slow it's almost like nothing is happening and the software is completely unresponsive until whatever background processes are running have completed. As an example, when I turn off the visibility for several layers, I see an Image Size progress bar then a progress bar indicating Elements is cropping the image. Then finally the layer is turned off. I work with files containing dozens of layers; three days ago, before the Fall Creators update, turning off all but one layer using the left mouse button and dragging the cursor over the desired layers literally took seconds. Now each layer takes about 15 seconds, meaning I might be sitting here for several minutes until all but one layer is off. Switching between open files also takes about 10 times longer. I've gone through all the settings, nothing is amiss there. I've rebooted my computer several times and it has made no difference. This is going to really affect my workflow and productivity. Is there anybody else having this problem? Were you able to resolve it?
