Question

JPEG Editing in RAW

Hi

Two (related) questions

I have been used to being able to edit JPEG’s using Camera Raw when opening the file in Photoshop Elements, but that facility to process JPEG files with the RAW  processor seems to no longer work.

Now when clicking on a JPEG file and selecting Camera RAW the open button is greyed out.

Thinking the problem may require an update, however when clicking update from the Help menu it goes through the checking updates and then gives error code U41MIC213.

Tried turning off the Mac firewall. Still no joy.

Any ideas?

You click on the Jpeg picture and have Enable set to All Readable Documents and you set the Format to Camera Raw?

    Thanks for your reply

It used to work like that but now If I click on the JPEG with Enable set to All readable documents the format window disappears, and you cant set format to camera Raw

If I preset the format to Camera Raw Format returns to JPEG and then disappears and the file  opens in the normal editor not Raw

Also the format window is now on the left of the open file menu

Ah, i see what your talking about.

Set the Open dialog view to something other than Column View and it should work then.

This is the only update that i know of for pse 10:

Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 6.7 update for Elements 10

I’m not sure why it stopped working but assume updating to High Sierra with the new Apple File System may have introduced an incompatibility as PSE10 is now quite old. The Mac version has always been different to Windows which has the Open As command under the file menu. But selecting camera raw as the file format when using: File >> Open from the Editor did work in the past as you suggest.

The latest OS High Sierra will certainly benefit from the latest software. Maybe it’s time to take the free trial of PSE 2018. The interface is different but you will recognize most of the tools.
