JPEG Parsing Problem - Elements 14

I have been trying to do photo-stitching in Photomerge - Elements 14.

After having loaded the photos (2 or max of 3) I receive a message "could not complete your request because of a problem parsing the JPEG image.

I have uninstalled the programme and then reloaded it - no change.

I have tried saving the image as a PNG file - still does not work.

Can you assist please
