Question

Larger text in menus - possible with elements 18?

I have photoshop elements 8.0 (windows 10) and with a high resolution monitor ( 2560x1440) the font/textsize in menus are so small and very difficult to read. I have tried to change the text bigger (edit|>preferences > text >big) but even if I start the computer once again, it doesn´t change the size. Is it possible to change this and get bigger size for the text-menues with elements 18,  to see and read better? (or earlier, version 16,17?). I dont want to change my computer to a lower resolution.

OK, Adobe.  This question has gone unanswered for too long.  There are obviously enough of us who have this problem... it's time to get on it.

You are not speaking to Adobe here in this user to user forum.

You may complain in the feedback forum:

Photoshop Elements | Photoshop Family Customer Community

That said, you may get very effective help here, not only because fellow users will answer your questions quickly and expertly, but because the forum is full of answers to all common and often exotic questions.

For instance, the question about text size has already been answered dozens of times before.

Since Adobe introduced the 200% text scaling in PSE13.1, that solution did not work for the PSE8 old version of the original poster.

What you have to know without searching (and you can test for free on a trial version):

    - In the editor, since PSE13.1 the text is scaled automatically from 100% to 200% in the editor.

    - The organizer does not use this feature, instead it is compliant with the Windows text size preference settings. You can choose different scales like 125 or 150%.

That means that Elements users with 4k displays are generally very happy. Those with not quite 4k displays may still want a 150% scaling, which is not yet ready for Elements. If you are in that situation, post in the feedback forum where you'll find similar feature requests.

My firm belief is that those 4k laptops may be tempting for other purposes, but are totally useless for serious image editing; you'll be much more happy with a standard display AND and an external hardware calibration tool. Choose where to spend your money.

Yes, please fix this serious problem. I can hardly read the menus! I tried a trial version of PaintShop Pro 2018 before buying Elements and it has a menu setting to change text size, which was great. I'm using PSE 2018.

Have you tried changing the prefs?

Options for HiDpi displays can be found in preferences on Windows. There are three possible settings

    Automatic

    Small 100%

    Large 200%

On Windows go to Edit >> Preferences to change. See my image. After you change the setting you must click OK, close the editor and re-launch again for the revised settings to take effect.

    Thanks.

Changing the display threw off everything else, so guess I’ll have to live with a magnifying class for Photoshop.

One would think that Adobe would adjust their menu fonts for their many users.

    Take care…

Elements 8 is too old to support a display technology which appeared years after.

I dont want to change my computer to a lower resolution.

That's the only solution... and the best one for photo editing.

Even if you had a newer Elements version (from version 13, 14, 15 or 2018) your display is not a real 4k high resolution one. That means you would have problems if the font size was doubled: some parts of the menus would be hidden. Remember that you have two situations for editing: pixel editing at 100% view and global editing to judge the image tones and colors. You are simply alternating those modes by zoom constantly. For the interface, the most comfortable situation is to lower the resolution. Trust me, you would have absolutely no problem with a standard display.

    Edit:

If youy want to test the current 2018 version, use the free trial to see if the menus appear completely when you have set the fonts to 200%.
