Layer mask thumbnail image is not correct

The layer mask used to be a white square so I could see where I was brushing on the image. One day mine switched to a black box with a white circle and I can't see where I'm brushing. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling PSE and it didn't work. I am using PSE15. I attached an image of the thumbnail mask how it is now.

Looks like the Layer panel thumbnails have been set to None.

In the Layers panel flyout menu under Panel Options you can set the Thumbnail Size.
