Loss of thumbnails

Using Elements 14. When I download photos from camera, instead of thumbnails, end up sand timer figure on each photo. Have looked for solutions, unable to resolve. Will someone please explain how to get the thumbnails back. Have a SnagIt screen shot of the problem but doesn't appear to be anywhere on this where can download it to. Thanks. Bob

I don't think having a snapshot will help in any way.

The first thing is to understand that thumbnail generations means:

1 - that each file has to be opened and processed to produce a small thumbnail stored in a database used for caching. That also means that it can take a while to be done. The process is pretty fast, but for instance, converting a single raw file to produce a thumbnail showing your edits will take a few seconds... or more depending on your hardware

2 - the caching process deals in priority with the selected files in your display. It's a background task which makes browsing possible at reasonable speed even if only a part of the library has been processed.

Problems may arise in various situations.

Photoshop Elements (PSE) knowledge base.: How to correct hourglass (generic) thumbnail in Elements Organizer??

The first thing to try is to 'optimize' the catalog - the second one is deleting the thumbnail cache.

Thank you for your answer with the link "How to correct hourglass." Tried this and it worked. Looked for place to tick 'Correct' on the link provided and could not see anything. Thanks, again, for the help. Much appreciated

How do I attach a screenshot?

    Windows Vista and later

    Windows XP and earlier

    • Use the Print Screen button on the keyboard to capture the entire desktop, then use a imaging program like MS Paint, Paint.NET, or similar to paste the captured image.  Some programs can crop the area you want to show, so you do not need to post the entire desktop.  Save the result as a JPG or PNG file.
    • More detailed instructions: Take a screenshot on Windows XP
    • Alternate screenshot tool: Jing (free download)

    Mac OS

    • Shift + Command + 4
    • Drag the cursor to where you'd like to start one of the corners of the screenshot and press down and drag the mouse over the area you'd like to capture.
    • Release your mouse
    • The screenshot will be saved on your Desktop

    • To post the saved screenshot you need to be in the forum editor; either as a new topic, or as a reply in a topic requesting a screenshot.

    • Click on the camera icon in the editor menu to upload the saved image to the current cursor position.
