Question

Migrate Face tags from Elements to Lightroom

Hi,

After reaching 150,000 pictures, it seems that Elements is just not up to it anymore. It is very slow and crashes regularly. I thought of migrating to Lightroom, as it is made for studios and, I assume, should handle many more photos. However, over the years, I have had some 20,000 faces that I painstakingly tagged in Elements, and it would be quite a disaster if I lost this data. Since there are no clear instructions on whether face recognition data is imported during the migration or if there is any third-party tool to accomplish this without losing my data, I thought to ask if anyone has experience doing this and can give me some advice on how to go about it. I would be very happy for any tips and tricks to do this.

Which version of Elements are you using?  If you are using 2023 or 2024, the speed issue may be related to auto-synching with the Elements Web.  I have over 270,000 media files in my catalog and probably have several family members with face stacks that are close to 20,000 images each.  I have turned off auto-synching with the Elements Web and have no performance issues.
