Missing People Picture Pictures in Organizer?

I moved some files around and now under the People Heading in my catalog a number of the names have no pictures and when I click on them nothing comes up. I am running the latest version (2023) of Elements.

So, what's the problem?

The generic icons appear in the People room because the photos have not gone through face recognition, or in moving the files you have disconnected the data recording the face recognition.   You can probably replace the faces in the People room by using the Add Person button in Single Image View in the grid.  This will probably tag the photo twice (e.g. with Andrew's name).  If that happens, you can remove the generic tag by selecting it and using the Not this Person command.  (I haven't tested this, but I think I am correct.  If you choose to do this, experiment on one or two photos/icons to confirm that this will work for you.)

This adds another People Tag for Andrew so I end up with two People Tags.  If I click one it show all pictures of Andrew and if I click the other it says No media available.

Clicking on his face and Update Thumbnail doesn't work either.  Which really surprises me.

What does work is adding the name of Andrew as a note on a photo, deleteing his People Tag, searching for the photo, and then tagging his face again.  Of course I loose all the tagged pictures whitch sucks, but I guess either the organizer or I will find them again.

What does 'Reset Face Analysis' do in Preferences under Media-Analysis?

It's still not clear to me what you are doing or how you got in the situation you are in.  But here are a couple of other comments and suggestions.

If you are checking the boxes (separately) for the two tags of Andrew in the Keyword panel and one of them says No media available, it means that the tag is useless.  You can safely delete the tag by right-clicking on it and choosing Delete from the popup context menu.

It will delete ALL People tags in the catalog.  This is probably not something you would ever want to do.

What happens if you check Andrew's name in the People Tags under the Keyword panel?

I need more details about your current problem.

Did it occur before or after you created a new catalog?

Did you upgrade from an earlier version and converted the catalog?  If so, which version catalog was converted to Elements 2023?

Which catalog are you now having problems with - the new or the old one?

How did you apply People name tags to your photos?

  • Via UnNamed People tab?
  • Naming the photo on the Face Recognition circle in the main media grid?
  • Using the Add Name button in full screen view in the media grid?
  • By click and drag of a name tag to a photo?

After.

Yes.  Everything was working after I converted from, I think it was 2021.

Having trouble with the new catalog.  I think the old catalog is gone.

I applied the name tags from the UnNamed and the suggestions from Organizer.  I don't think I did any by click and drag.

I assume you moved the files around using Windows File Explorer.   You should never manage your files outside of the Organizer because the program has no idea what you did with them. As a result, the files are now missing as far as the Organizer is concerned.

Depending on how many files you are talking about, the easiest solution is probably to replace the files in their original locations and move them to your desired location using the Organizer's Folders panel.

Alternatively, run Find>All Missing Files from the menu. You can then use that dialog to relink the files in their new location.

I didn't move them in Organizer because it's so slow.  Move move a bunch of photos to a new folders and then made a new  catalog in hoping it would speed things up.  After I did this I found all missing files and then deleted them go get rid of the thumbnails.  Now when I find All Missing Files I don't get anything.... which I would think is a good thing.

But now I have the issue above.  Under the People tab and have some people with over 50 entries, with a blank face, and when I click on them nothing comes up.
