MOV FILES missing video playback

Videos that were shot with my Panasonic DMC-FZ28 will not show video only audio in PEOrganizer 24. When imported in Premiere Elements 2024 they are fine. These play fine in Windows Media Player and  in Organizer I get only a white screen and audio. MOV files shot with other devices play fine. Is there a CODEC I'm missing?

Correct answer Greg_S.

One of the reasons that .mov files don't play in Elements is if they are recorded in an HDR color space.    Elements does not support those files (which are frequently found in iPhone videos).   See this article to determine whether your files fit this model.  (And note that Premiere Elements will probably not play them either.)

So, having said that, I suggest you convert your files to MP4, using Handbrake, which is a well-known and free utility.  Handbrake can batch process multiple files.

Thanks Greg. I've converted a batch to MP4 using Handbrake as you suggested. They work fine in Elements now. Your point about batch processing is really important -- I had been avoiding the option of converting all the files as I assumed it would be too time-consuming, but in batches it's OK.

I have similar problem with some old .mov files in Organizer of Photoshop Elements 2024 (though running in Windows 11 Pro, version 22H2). Files probably also shot with a Panasonic camera. With your question about Codec, related discussions in this Community suggest downloading MediaInfo app to help identify Codec. You can get it free from Microsoft store.

With my .mov files, this showed the video Codec ID as  "jpeg". But I've no idea what to do next with that information about Codec. Maybe you do!
