MOVE ELEMENTS 2020 ORGANISER CATALOG AND TAGS (VER 18) THE NEW ELEMENTS 2023

Once again, I am confused by Adobe Elements instructions and need guidance.  I have Elements Organiser 2020 (Ver 2018) and plan to upgrade to the new Elements 2023.  Knowing that the new program will install separately, how can I ensure that my catalog (My Catalog 2020 Current) and all of my Tags and Keywords tranasfer or copy across to the new program.  The Catalog is saved to my D data HDD drive, the program is on C:\ an SSD. I am using Windows 11 Pro, 22H2.

Grateful for any assistance.  I know that I asked a similar Q some few years back, but can't find the linl.

Grateful.

Hi @sweepling

You should find all your older 90 posts by clicking on your avatar. You should get a list of all of them.

This time, I understand you want to upgrade your PSE version without changing your computer.

In this case, a backup is not necessary (it's not a bad thing anyway). You only need to 'convert' your current catalog. It seems it is in a 'custom' location on your D HDD, which is not a big problem.

When your catalog is located in the default location, when you install the new PSE version, the installer prompts you to 'upgrade' your latest catalog, which you have to agree to. It may not find your catalog in custom location, so you use the catalog manager and choose the button 'convert'. Then you can guide the converter to real location of the catalog. The result of the conversion is a new catalog folder with the same name while keeping the older source catalog renamed with a -1 suffix so that it still works with the old PSE version.

There is no risk to overwrite or delete the older catalog. You can even 'convert' it again if something goes wrong.

Morning Michel et al,

I bit the bullet and downloaded PSE 2023. The installation seemed to go well.  I accepted the offer to convert my 2020 catalog. I then opened PSE 2023, but there were no medial present.  I opened 'Get Media' and started to import.  I was then offered ''Import Keyword tags' from a screen which showed a large numbe rof tags which I recognise.

After all that, while I had my thumbnails there were no tags attached, neither showing on the main screennor in the tags column on the RHS of the screen.  I then got the error 'MS Visual C++ Runtime Library: Assertion failed - abort - retry - ignore'.

I have now uninstalled PSE 2023 for the moment.  Fortunately PSE 2020 remains working and with all my keyword and smart tags attached to the thumbnails.

Any ideas please?
