Moving Organizer catalogue

When I imported the catalogue, it landed in a place on my hard drive that I didn't intend.

Not sure I understand. Do you mean that the result of the backup and restore was to install the folder tree in a different place that the one you specified for the restore? Or that the original folder structure was not restored?

There is a very common trap for those who store their image files in the Windows 'Pictures' which is a shortcut to avoid the many steps to get there in your 'user' folder. Selecting the option to restore the original structure does restore the full path, all the steps to go to 'Pictures'; even if the upper steps don't contain anything but the subfolders.

 After I back it up on the new computer, are the images in Organizer linked back to the original location, or to the new backup?

The restore function stores the images where you specify in the beginning of the restore command. The links in the restored catalog are updated for the new location. If you create a new backup and restore, it will be the same, the links will be to the new destination.
