Question

New Harddrive, files won't connect

Hi,

I added a RAID drive to my PC and hand moved all of my pictures over to it from the other RAID drive.  My catalog still thinks all of the files are located on the original drive and will not locate or sync to the new drive.  I had this problem on Photoshop Elements 6 and have upgraded to PE2019, but have the same problem.  I've tried importing the RAID but this doesn't work.  Any thoughts?

thanks,

David

David,

You have chosen to use a network drive.

The organizer was never designed to work with such LANs and Adobe does not support (help users) in this case.

Advanced users can manage a library stored in a catalog as suggested by expert John R Ellis (mapping the LAN to a drive letter).

Photoshop Elements 6/7/8 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Anyway, the reconnection process for a whole library is always a pain... The general solution when changing drives, computers, partitions or master folders is the classical full backup and restore process, which takes care of thd drive identification (drive letter and internal serial number). I don't know what happens when moving from a given RAID drive to another (it's so easier, cheaper and safer for me to use a good external drive for sharing). I hope you'll get help from advanced users knowing networks with PSE. What you can do is to go back to your old drive, and try to do a full backup on a normal external drive. My guess is that the backup should work. Then you can try to restore to the second drive (always mapping to a drive letter). If that does not work, you have a very useful backup (always needed even if your files are on a RAID drive) and you are sure you can restore everything on a standard external drive.

Edit: I found this old discussion:

How do I completely delete a catalog so I can just start over?

Simply select another catalog or create a new empty one. You can delete a catalog from the catalog manager if it is not in use. You can also look for the location of the catalog folder and delete it from the explorer/finder.

But you don't need to delete a catalog to create and select a new empty one. Remember the catalog does only contain pointers to your media files, it contains no duplicates.
