New Laptop and new Photoshop, Elements cannot find my files

Have a new laptop and new version of Elements (2025).  I did a backup from my old laptop to an external harddrive from Elements 2020.  After getting Elements 2025 loaded onto new laptop, did a restore using the backup I saved on my external harddrive.

After I run Elements 2025 on my new computer, I can see all of my photo's, but each time I try and open one, it cannot find it, (missing file).  I tried FIND ALL MISSING FILES, took an hour but still could not find my files.  I can find them!

What do I have to do to fix this.

Thank You!!!!!

What options did you use to restore the backup.  See this article for full instructions.

To figure out what went on, select a missing file in the Organizer and look at the Location in Info panel on the right.  That is where Elements is looking for them.

Based on what you have told us, I suspect that your backup is only of the catalog structure and did not include the photos.  So, for example, if your old catalog photos are in your My Pictures folder on the C drive.  The transferred catalog on the new computer will be looking in the same place but won't find them because they have not been copied from the old computer during the limited backup process.

Did you create the backup that you are trying to restore using organzier?  If not: that's your problem.
