New to Photoshop Elements 15

I just recently converted from using Aperture to Photoshop Elements 15.  i am running a Mid 2007 iMac with El Captian OS X Version 10.11.6.

I have a 4TB WD Mycloud NAS drive, where I have a bout 56,000 images stored.  I have imported all of those images into Photoshop Elements.  The program is super slower, and isn't very usable, and I am wondering if it is the way that I have it setup.  Can someone please suggest the best way to set up Photoshop Elements, as I don't have the space on my iMac, so I need to keep on an external drive.  Is using a NAS drive not the best option for Photoshop Elements?  Ideally, I would like to keep using, so I can have remote access to my photos.

I am also planning on syncing my NAS drive to a Dropbox account for offsite backup.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Chris, it could be something to do with the network connection. I use a Gdrive external hard drive connected with a thunderbolt cable and get a really fast performance.

    Try experimenting with another drive or put a folder of images into Pictures on your internal drive in order to make a comparison.

    Thanks for the reply. I imported a folder of photos from my internal drive, and the functionality is still pretty slow. Startup slow, import is slow, viewing stutters( can be ok speed or it can freeze and give me the spinning busy wheel)

    Any other thoughts? I have 181 gb free hard drive space, so that can't be issue.

    What size and kind of drive is it?
