I just downloaded a trial of the latest Nik Collection 7.  I only tried a couple of modules but it seems to work.  You can download a 7 day free trial of Elements 2025 and see for yourself.

Hi Greg. Nik Collection 6 and 7 with the recent updates are working fine with PSE 2025 on my Mac OS Sequoia. For the newest release 8 I am struggling with freezing PSE when closing down. I am looking for support here in the community and opened a support ticket for DXO. Best wishes Thomas.

A 100% AI response:

The "Nik Collection 8 clause" refers to a specific setting within the Nik Collection plugins (like those that work with Photoshop) that can cause crashes or freezes when applied in Photoshop Elements. The setting "Apply the filtered effect to a separate layer" can lead to issues, especially if it's not handled correctly. A workaround is to change this setting to "Apply the filtered effect to the current layer" to prevent Photoshop Elements from freezing.

Here's a more detailed explanation:
  • The Problem:
When the Nik Collection applies an effect, it can create a new layer in Photoshop. This can cause issues, especially in Photoshop Elements, where new layers might not be handled as robustly as in Photoshop.
  • The Solution:
To resolve this, you can change the Nik Collection's settings to apply the effect directly to the current layer instead of creating a new one.
  • How to Change the Setting:
    1. Open a photo in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.
    2. Open the photo in the desired Nik Collection plugin (e.g., Sharpen, Color, etc.).
    3. Find the settings box (usually in the bottom left corner).
    4. Go to the "After Clicking OK" tab.
    5. Change the setting from "Apply the filtered effect to a separate layer" to "Apply the filtered effect to the current layer".
    6. Save the changes.
