No close button on windows in Photoshop elements 2024

Hi, I just purchased Photoshop Elements 2024 and the windows (eg. Preference window) has no close X button. to get out of the windows i have to "force quit" the whole program.

I uninstalled/reinstalled a few times, updated to latest OS on Macbook pro computer, reinstalled/uninstalled etc a few more times, nothing works.

If you can't reach the X button, go to File menu>Exit.
