Question

No PSD Files

Recently I checked the image files that I've transferred to an external hard drive, and I found that some of them have PSD versions and others don't. To my recollection, I used the same steps in saving files that do have PSD's and those that don't. Two questions:

1) Is there any simple reason that anyone can come up with as to why PSD's might be there for some saved files and not for others?

2) Does it really matter (considering that all of the files also have TIFF versions saved)? (I ask because I think I've read that it's important to have files saved as PSD ones, but I've also heard that TIFF's are basically just as "good" in terms of saving all the information.)

Thank you!

Yes, when you save your files, look at the saving options; the file type by default is clearly shown. The reason some are saved as jpeg and others as psd is simple. The jpeg format can't keep your files attributes if:

- you have layers

- you have transparency

- you are in 16-bits mode

- you have used filters requiring creating a layer from the background.

Tiff or psd, does not matter.

Having both would be redundant.
