Question

Oh oh -- photos have gone missing in Organizer

Some of my photos have suddenly gone missing in Organizer (replaced by a gray icon of a ripped sheet of paper). Consequently they cannot be edited or further managed, even though the link is intact and the source file has not moved.

Is there a fix for this?

Hi,

Can you right click those missing thumbnails and select, 'Update thumbnail'? Does this help?

Thanks!

Photos are missing *in the source files.*

Hi,

This means you have moved your photos from outside of Organizer. Since they are no longer at the original location, they are missing files for Organizer and you need to reconnect to the new location.

To filter out all missing files, go to Find->All Missing Files. This will filter all missing files. Now, to reconnect them double click a missing File, a autoscanner opens to find the missing files.

Click on Browse, and a dialog box opens to reconnect missing files. Select the correct location of the file on the right hand side and click on 'Reconnect'.

To know more about reconnecting missing files, please read 'Reconnect missing files in a catalog' section of this article: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/elements-organizer/user-guide.html/in/elements-organizer/using/troubleshooting-catalog-issues.ug.html

Please let me know if this solves your issue.

Thanks!

Your photos are not shown as 'missing' in the organizer. You don't get the small 'missing' icon but the thumbnail can't be displayed because the size of the file is too big.

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/maximum-image-size-limits-photoshop.html

Very often, the big size is not needed and not voluntary (error in resizing units...)

It happens with big panoramas or with scans at excessive resolution. If you don't want to edit the registry (see the workaround above) create a very small 'version set' which will show your image on top of the collapsed version set.

Yikes. Worse than I thought. Photos missing *in the source files.*
