Question

Old newspapers

Hi, I want to make newspaper articles more readable from early 1900s that I clipped from newspapers.com.  It's probably the quality at which they were scanned into the website and the letters are fuzzy. Any way to do that in Elements?

Thanks Glenn. So you just did the Auto Smart Tone? I would want it even sharper than that --they will be printed in a book with lots of others and I don't want people having to squint too long!

It looks like you are now left with just an old newspaper, poor quality printing on the cheapest paper, perhaps not perfectly stored and with some damage from the time of printing or later. Reasonable scan for what it is. I wouldn't expect anything better. But if the text is long and important you should probably transcribe it for the reader.

Play with adjusting levels, brightness, contrast, and sharpening.
