Opening Camera RAW files

stevew28450778  wrote I have Photoshop Elements 9. When I try to open a RAW image taken with a Nikon D3400, I get an error message that says it cannot open because it is the wrong type of file. RAW images taken with a D3100 will open. What I want to know is did something change and do I need to upgrade to a newer version Of Elements?

Any new camera is issued with its own new format.

Your old PSE9 can't be updated to newer than version 6.5 whereas you need version 9.5...

So, if you don't want to pay for the present PSE15 which works with version 9.10, you can either:

- use the converting software bundled by Nikon with your camera; convert to .tiff format which works with Elements

- download the free Adobe DNGconverter software mentionned in the previous faq. That independent (standalone) program, which is not a plugin, can batch convert a whole folder of raw files to the DNG raw format that your PSE9 can read and edit. No loss in quality and raw advantages, only an additional batch process.
