Opening NEF files from D5600 on elements 14

amys82890560  wrote Hi, I have recently bought a new Nikon D5600 and cannot open NEF files in photoshop elements 14.  I have checked for updates and it is saying that it is upto date.  I have sorted the same issue out on my laptop with the Nikon Codec software.  How do I sort the issue within photoshop elements also?

No, you have to know that each new camera comes with its own, unique new raw format that no older software can understand.

The links in that faq show that you would need PSE15 or PSE2018 to recognize your D5600.

If you don't want to pay the upgrade to the current PSE2018, the solution is to download the free Adobe DNGconverter software which can convert your raw files to the universal DNG raw format. It can batch convert a whole folder of your NEF files to the DNG format that your PSE14 can read and edit. An additional step, but free and with the same quality.
