Opening NEF files on PC and Mac version of PE9

Question

I have a very old copy of PE (PE9) but which works fine. I have installed it both on my PC and my iMac. On my PC, I can open Raw files (NEF) perfectly easily in PE9. (There's a rather limited interface but I assume that's because it's PE rather than the full version of Photoshop.) But I can't open exactly the same files in the PE9 version on my iMac. I don't understand why. Is there something specific I should be doing to allow the Mac version of PE9 to open NEF files? I should perhaps add that I'm using exactly the same camera in both cases. I had hoped I could open NEF files on my iMac using Adobe Bridge but I get a "Camera Raw editing is not enabled" message which I gather means that I've got to take out an active subscription to Photoshop proper or Lightroom in order to use the Adobe Bridge plug-in. For all the obvious reasons I'm a bit reluctant to do this. If anyone can help me to open NEF files in the Mac version of PE9 I'd be very grateful! Thank you.

Sounds like you just need to update the camera raw plugin for pse 9 on the mac side.

Your right about bridge and camera raw, since bridge needs an parent application like photoshop cc installed in order to use camera raw in bridge.
