Organiser Default Catalogue Cannot Be Found

On two separate occasions I have tried to open Organiser on my Mac and the default catalogue cannot be found. First time I started again and imported everything for a second time however the problem has happened again and I don't know what to do. I've lost faith in using Photoshop completely now as I don't want to keep losing my work and my photos

From the Organizer menu go to:

    File >> Manage Catalogs

Click the open button and you should see a list of named catalogs

Select one (highlight) and click open.

Hi, I can't even get into Organiser to be able to use the menu. The catalog manager opens but there is nothing in there to select.

If the catalog manager opens, there is hope .

    To avoid any misunderstanding:

    1 -

I don't want to keep losing my work and my photos

You never lose your photos, they are not in catalogs, they are in your computer. Catalogs are just like paper catalogs, they don't contain your image files, only 'links' to those files.

You may lose track of catalogs, but they don't disappear, they should be in your computer. Catalogs are Folders; you may have to search from your Finder to locate them. They contain the information like tags, captions and ratings you have assigned to photos.

    2 -

When you open the catalog manager, it may not find the catalog you are searching but the last one in use. The catalog manager can't open if there is not a selected catalog. If the last used catalog folder has been deleted or moved, you get a warnint to start with a new empty catalog. If you do:

there is nothing in there to select.

Because a catalog is empty until you IMPORT files into the catalog.

3 - If you have lost track of a catalog, it's not the best solution to start with a new empty catalog, it's better to search for the location of the older, better catalog which may have been moved elsewhere outside of the organizer. For more guidance, can you specify which Elements version you are using?
