Organiser - Move catalogue from PSE 12 to PSE 23

Advice please!

I am considering purchasing PSE 23 and installing on W.10 l/top (HP 23" H.D. and i7) and am currently using PSE 12 on W.7 l/top. Is the transfer method for the catalogue largely unchanged - ie back up to hard drive and then restore to PSE 23 or should I anticipate problems? Guidance please for a fairly smart geriatric.

Hi Richard.  Elements 12 is running fine on my Win 10 machine. 

Whether you should upgrade to Elements 2023 depends on how you use the program.  There have been many new and improved features since Elements 12.  You can download a free trial of Elements 2023 and see for yourself whether the upgrade is worth your money.

As the owner of a prior version, you are entitled to a small discount if you purchase direct from Adobe.

Hi Greg,

That is very encouraguing info - thank you. Apart from the cost aspect, my attraction to PSE 12 is that I am familiar with it and the Organiser is still comparable with much of the competition. The Edit facility still covers the 'basics' pretty well and for the more challenging/detailed work, I have Affinity Photo 2, ON1 ver.2023, The Franzis Projects range, Silkypix 10 Developer, Silkypix 10 JPEG Photography, and a number of 'specialist' items. An alternative may be ON 1 as it has its own organiser which is quite good apparently (but not yet experienced) and I am somewhat suspicious of the quality of  support this company offers as it seems pretty variable at times according to the forum reports. I am aware of some of the genuine 'improvements' to PSE but also notice that some are 'flippant nicknacks ' and 'persuaders' to the customer to upgrade. I think your suggestion of a trial of PSE 23 is certainly worth considering. An alternative, low cost organiser may be Photo ExpressViewer by the Ichikawasoft Laboratory which is available at around £20.00 and SEEMS extraordinary value if it does what it claims. Maybe, that with the new Affinity Photo 2 could be an ok  combination.?! Seemingly, the world is my oyster and I just need a little more knowledge and time to make up my tiny ancient mind!!! Thank you again - you have been very helpful and I AM VERY grateful.

Hi Richard.  Yes, nothing much has changed in the methods for transferring your catalogue to a new computer with a new version of the program.  See this article for more details.

 

Before backing up your catalogue, I recommend using the Find>All Missing Files menu command to make sure there are no missing files.  It is also worthwhile to go to File>Manage Catalogs and use the Repair and Optimize buttons to avoid other possible issues with the catalogue.

Hi Greg,

You are quick! Just left the computer to move clothing from the washer to the dryer and you had replied. Thank you so much . I am relieved, as I had anticipated that the passage of time may have complicated the issue. As an aside, do you think that PSE 12 would run satisfactorily under current Windows 10, as that would save the cost of PSE 23? I am not really 'a tight wad' but pensioners have to watch the pennies and much of the interim "improvements" are of questionable value to me!
