Organizer 2021 problems with photos from iPhone HEIC

I purchased a new MacBook Pro and installed my Adobe software.  During my upload from camera cards, the system automatically started uploading all the pics from my iPhone.  I was planning to do this, but not in the way that it was done.  There were so many, the software split them into around 20-30 folders.  I moved the pics all into one folder that now contains around 6000 images.  Every time I go to that folder, the Organizer bogs down and will not even scroll through the folder.  I want to be able to edit some of these images and am not able to.  When I go to the tree view, this folder is a sub, sub folder.  Do I need to delete this folder and start over or is there another way to resolve this problem?

What OS are you using?  If you are on Monterey, you need to update it to version 12.1 for Elements 2021 to launch properly, although I don't think I have seen any Monterey issues with the Organizer.

Can you open a .heic file in the Editor and save it as a jpeg?

In the Editor's File>Process Multiple Files dialog, you can convert multiple files to a different format.  I'm not sure whether this works with .heic to jpeg, but I would assume it does.

PS  I know almost nothing about Macs.

Sorry, I should have said.  Go to Edit>Preferences>Media Analysis and uncheck all the boxes.  Let us know if this makes a difference.

Unfortunately this has not helped.  I've closed the program, restarted the computer and nothing I am doing is speeding up this 1 folder.  I am thinking it has something to do with the heic extension on the iPhone photos. I can't find a way to convert them. I also think it has imported the photos multiple times, but am not sure because I can't scroll through the folder.   Should I delete the folder and import them again?  If so, is there a way to convert on import?  Thank you for your help again!

Have all the thumbnails been drawn in the folder?  You should wait a while until the thumbnails are all present.

Added: And you should also turn all Media Analysis off because that will also bog down performance.  If you want to use Media Analysis, turn it on and leave the computer running overnight.

Thank you for your reply.  This may seem elementary, but I cannot find the answer, how do you turn off media analysis?
