Organizer Import Disaster

I need to get back at this and fix it or delete Elements entirely.  I had a library of photos on a Mac organized by Apple Photos.  I did import routine with Organizer and selected my media folders.  They were mostly organized by dates (month and year) in Photos.  On the drive they were stored by import sessions from their various camera sources.

After importing I'm left with a huge mess of gibberishly named folders, many with only one photo in them (%%Jd45DlSwiCFsvreXql5g is an example of a folder name).

I'm sure there are hundreds of these folders.

It would make no sense and take weeks to try to manually go through each folder and make a sensible name and figure out whats in each one.  Can I start over?  Where did I go wrong on what seemed like it should have been a simple process.

I also find the help files and video tutorials pretty much useless.  They skim the surface but my results don't relate to anything they show.  I have Elements 15.
