Question

Organizer import does not import SD card photos to my designated save folder. Lost many photos.

For at least 4 years, I have been importing photos from my D7200's SD card using a card reader and they went into the dated folder in the catalog on my permanent storage disk.  Recently, the import puts thumbnails of the photos in the catalog making me think I have them permanently stored.

NO SUCH THING!

It has stopped moving them to my hard drive and continues to reference them on the SD card/card reader.

I thought they were saved.  When I cleaned my SD card, I lost the photos of my new born grandson.  The thumbnails still appeared in Organizer, but the real files were gone.

I am just about to get rid of Elements/Organizer.

I have tried everything I can think of without success to correct what I think is a fatal flaw.  My preferences are set up to move the imported files to my hard disk (which is regularly backed up) but I doesn't do what it says.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry for the late reply to what must be an important issue for you.  What version of Elements and OS are you using?

I assume you are using the option to Import>From Camera or Card Reader but please confirm this to be true. If so, please, give us screenshots of the Files and Camera or Card Reader dialogs found under the Edit>Preferences menu.

Also give us a screenshot of your Adobe Photo Downloader dialog (Advanced View) which you can access by using the Import>From Camera or Card Reader menu.

As for your precious lost photos, are you sure they have not been downloaded to your hard drive?  To find out, select one of the thumbnails and click on the Location link in the Information panel:

There are a couple of ways to recover the photos.  A low resolution copy can be obtained by zooming each photo to Full Screen View and then taking a screenshot of the thumbnail.

There are also a number of software programs that can recover files from your memory card even if the files have been deleted or the card reformatted.  A Google search should easily find them.
