Organizer Trashing Items

I am using Organizer 15 on a Macbook Pro.  When I tagged my scrapbooking supplies and saved metadata to files I found 5,000+ items in my trash.  Does Organizer copy and delete things during this action?  Everything was previously loaded into Organizer and I was only tagging.  I have checked three of the trashed items and they are still on my computer.  They are still in organizer but I am leery of deleting all 5000+ items without knowing that I am not losing them.  This is not the first time this has happened.  Is this common?  Is is all right to delete the items or do I need to check all of them?
