PE 2025 won’t open Topaz files

I have elements 2025 and recently got Topaz Photo.  I process a .nef raw file through topaz and export it back to the original folder as a .dgn file.  When I open the .dgn file in PE 2025 I get a message "to open this file, install the camera raw plug in from the Help menu ". I have installed it and reinstalled it.  I can open .nef files from my Nikon camera in camera raw so camera raw seems to be working fine.

Can anyone help me with this?

Without a fix my option seems to be get rid of topaz and try another denoising program.  Everything I have read says topaz and PE 2025 should work together.

thank you

I assume that you made a typo in your post and that you saved the .nef file from Topaz to .dng format (not as a .dgn file).  If you have installed Camera Raw via the Help menu, it may need a reboot of your computer in order to work with a .dng file.

Topaz Photo works as a plug-in with Elements.  You can access it directly from within the Editor where the plug-in makes the adjustments and returns it to the Editor as a new layer.  You can then save it to whichever non-raw format you want.  Or is there some reason why you saved the raw file as a .dng?

I am curious about why you cannot open the Topaz-created .dng file in the Editor.  Can you import these files into the Organizer?

And how are you opening the file in the Editor?  Are you getting any error message when you attempt to do so?

Are the problem Topaz .dng files contained in the same folder as the original .nef raw file?  And does that folder have an .xmp file with the same base name as the original?

The dng has been going to the original folder with the nef but there is no xmp file in there.  I saved a topaz file to a separate folder to see if that would help but it would not open.  Same problem as before.  The plug in is working pretty well.  I think I am okay with that and don't need to fix the original problem.  Thanks for your help.  You got me on the plug in path which I had not used before and was not familiar with.

Can you open your .nef files in Camera Raw?  If not, what model camera do you have?

I can open them in raw.  I have a Nikon Z9.  I have had no problems with raw or going from raw go PE except for topaz files.

One time I got a topaz dng to open in PE but the other 20 or so times I tried it they would not open.

I just created a .dng in the Topaz Photo standalone program.  It opened in the Elements 2025 Editor and could be imported into the Organizer using the Import>From Files and Folders method.  (I wasn't sure it would because Topaz created a 16 bit DNG file.)

Topaz should have automatically installed the plug-in into Elements.  With a file open in the Editor, go to the Filter>Topaz Labs Studio menu and you should find Topaz Studio.  Let me know if you don't see it and I will give you an alternative method to access it.  Also, which version of Topaz Studio do you have?

First - thank you very much for your help.

I found topaz in the filter pull down.  I can open a jpeg in PE and then denoise and sharpen it in topaz.  That works.

I was expecting I would denoise the nef file then edit it in camera raw then edit it in PE but maybe that can't be done. It seems like I have to edit in camera raw, open the file in PE, denoise with topaz and then edit in PE.   I tried again to make a topaz dng and open it in camera raw and it failed.  Somehow you have it working.  It is my understanding that everyone uses topaz first and then starts editing in camera raw and then in PE so I was expecting to do that but maybe I have that wrong.

Topaz creates a dng.  That seems to be the only option.  PE can't open it.

stupid question but how do I access topaz as a plug-in?  I don't see an option for that.  Maybe there is a link to a tutorial.
