Question

PE Editor has stopped printing to my WiFi printer

Until a few weeks ago, I have been able to print from PE 2024 to my WiFi connected printer, an Epson ET-8550. I am running this on Win10.

The printing utility in PE allows me to select the printer and change its options, but when I click the Print button, it spends the next 15-20sec doing nothing and then defaults to the default printer (HP Laserjet). I haven’t tried switching the ET-8550 as the default, as it seems to me that it is timing out on connecting to it. In the printing dialogue, under More Options, the colour management is set to “Printer Manages Colors”, and under Edit>Color Settings, “Always Optimize Color for Computer Screens” is selected.

I have found that I am able ro print from Windows Photo Viewer, and little else, as a .tif file.

I’d appreciate some help on this. Paul.

Wi-fi printers have frequently had issues with older versions of Elements.  Try going to the Editor’s Edit>Preferences>General dialog and click the Reset Preferences on next launch button.  That usually fixes most printer problems for printers that previously worked.

Do you experience the same problem if you print from the Organizer?

Thank you, thank you, Greg_S. This sorted the problem nicely. I’ll have to remember this fix for any future printing issue. It means I can put off upgrading PE for some time as I have absolutely no need for all those AI bells and whistles - my imaging needs are quite simple and I am dealing almost exclusively with technical images where all, and any creativity is done outside PE beforehand.

PE Organizer: I’ve never used it, and am not likely to as I have my own way of managing my images.

I’m not seeing a problem. I print from the Editor menu using: File >Print

I have an Epsom ink tank printer although I don’t use wi-fi. The printer is connected to the PC with a USB cable.

It may be worth temporarily making it the default?

Thank you, 99jon. I don’t know any other way of getting an image printed - File>Print, or Ctrl-P is what I have always used.

The fact that I am able to print from the Widows Photo Viewer (and subsequent to that I have tried PE 2026 and NCP’s PhotoPad with success, although Windows Photos app fails) would suggest that there is nothing wrong with the PC->WiFi->Printer circuit. Just suddenly, PE 2024 stopped interacting with the printer. The print dialogue in PE works as normal, and I’m able to select options like paper size, borders/borderless, and paper feed slot. Clicking the Print button has the print dialogue just sit there for 15-20 secs before it returns with a message that it has sent the job to the default printer (which I have off line). I’ve tried deleting the printer, then reinstalling it, but it didn’t fix the problem. I’m half tempted to reinstall PE 2024.

I’ll try making the WiFi printer the default, but I suspect I’ll see no difference in its behaviour as the behaviour of the print dialogue - hanging for 15-20sec - is indicative of it timing out; normally, there would be a 3-5 sec delay before the Epson print manager/status app shows.
