Question

PE2020; No longer have automatic suffix "_edited_n" when saving file after editing.

This suffix was automatically added when saving a file after editing a file. If editing twice, the "n" would be "1" for the first edit, and "2" for the second. This no longer happens when converting/saving a RAW to Jpeg file, or when editing a Jpeg file. It was nice to see and allowed for multiple versions. I've been unable to find a "preference" which would allow this to happen since "updating" from PE 2018 to PE 2020. Thanks for whatever help can be provided.

It appears a fix is already being prepared to resolve a (related) PSE/Catalina file naming issue that may also correct yours.  We'll have to wait and see.  lwp_99, as MichaelBParis pointed out, don't install PSE 18 on your Catalina machine, it won't work.  Instead, use this temporary workaround and keep an eye out for more news on the matter.

My guess is it's a Mac specific issue. Which OS version? Did you upgrade recently and did you keep the previous PSE version?

When you save a file, are you sure the checkbox to 'save in a version set' is ticked?

Thanks for the fast response. Sorry about the incomplete info. Yes, it's a Mac, and I just installed the new Catalina OS. I do have the PSE 2018 which I could reinstall. I recall having read 2018 would not be compatible with the new OS, but never tried it. May need to go back to the older PSE. I do have the "save in Version set" checked, and the files are stacked within the version.

That's what I expected. Even if I don't know Macs, I read most of the recent posts about Catalina issues and there is a variety of issues reported about the 'save' functions which seem to need specific workarounds.

I don't think you'll be able to reinstall older PSE versions since their installers are not in 64 bits. It appears in the forums that Catalina creates a lot of issues beside the 64-bits issue, the second one being the 'save' issue.
