Persistent image doubling in PElements 10

Hi, I am a new user of PElements 10. I must have accidentally pressed something which has caused an annoying problem to persist and I can't get rid of it. What is happening now is that when I try to move an image or reduce its size using the move tool, the original image stays in place. A second version of the image will move or reduce in size, but it is not visible beyond the boundary of the original image. In the Layers box the moved (or smaller) image is shown with the grey checkers around it. How do I get the system back to normal where it is possible to use the Move tool to move around an image (or change the size of the image using the squares in the corners) without being restricted by the original presentation of the image persisting?

I am not sure if there is anything wrong in what you are seeing.

Using the move tool to resize, move or rotate works on a normal layer. The background is not a normal layer. So either you change it to a normal layer (right click and 'layer from background') or you work on a layer copy with the background hidden.

If parts of the transformed selection are outside the boundaries of the background, they won't be visible. You'll have to resize the canvas size to create empty pixels around your imge.

What operating system are you using?

I'd reset the pse 10 editor preferences and see if that fixes the issue.

Press and hold Shift+Ctrl+Alt (windows) or Shift+Command+Option (mac) just after the luanch of the pse 10 editor

(you have to be quick about holding the keys down or you won't get the following dialog)

Keep holding the keys down until you get a dialog asking if you want to Delete Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File

Press Yes
