Photo Elements 2018 will not work on my MAC

I just purchased Photo Elements 2018 and could not install it on my MAC although my checking showed it as an I3 processor which supports 64 bit.  The message I receive states it is not.  I would like to give this package to someone I know who has a new MAC which supports 64 bit and meets all other criteria.  Can this be done and if so how do I go about doing so?  Thank you.
