Question

Photos All Missing

I have been using Photoshop Elements 14 for about a year now.  When I opened it last week, all of my photos are now gone!  90% of them are missing, a few are still there.  Why a few random photos are still there when all the other hundreds are now gone, I have no idea! Instead of my photos I now have grey boxes with question marks in them and little question mark boxes in the upper left hand corners.  they say they are "missing files".  I went into where you can have the program search for all missing files.  It does searches, but comes back with nothing!

What went wrong?  Where are all my photos?  What can I do to get them back?  Help!!!

Hi,

Organizer just keeps a reference to the images on your disk. It doesn't keep copies of the images. So, in case if you have moved the images on your disk to another folder/location they would appear as missing in Organizer.

Thanks,

Ankit

Hi Ankit:  Thank you for your reply.   Thinking about it more,  I did move some of the images inside of Photoshop to other folders and albums to organize them better.  But, I did not move them on my computer at all.  I don't use any external hard drives either.  Since I moved photos from one album or folder inside of Photoshop, that somehow must have screwed it all up.  But, how could it, it still should have all the photos, since none have been deleted by me.  Can you not move any photos within Photoshop one they are uploaded and edited??

Also, since I moved photos into different Photoshop folders, now the original folder the photos used to go into when I uploaded them from my camera does not work anymore either.  Now the photos I upload from my camera: 1.Go to a different folder or album everytime and I don't know where they are going to go.   2. Go missing!  The next time I look for them all I get is a grey box with a question mark in it.

Photos I just recently uploaded are missing, along with most of the photos I uploaded last year!

Please help!

Hi,

Just to verify the error can you please chack if the image shown missing in Organizer is actually present at the disk location where it was imported from. To do this, click on the image in Media view. from right panel click on Information and then check at the path specified in Location using explorer.

Thanks,

Ankit

Hi amlb,

Thanks for posting in Adobe forums.

I understand you are facing issue with your missing pictures.

- Question mark in the thumbnails of your pictures means your pictures are missing from the main location.

- You need to connect your thumbnails with original picture by browsing & connecting them to their exact location.

Thank

Regards

Hi Dhananjay:  As I stated in my question, I have tried browsing and connecting the missing files, but Photoshop can't seem to "find" them!

I don't know why.  I don't use any external hard drives at all.  The computer is new last year when I got the Photoshop software, so both are new and probably don't have bugs.  Why are some of my photos still showing up but most are gone?  Even the ones I just uploaded last week are "missing" now.  I am very upset and need to find them all.  Help!
