Question

Photos disappeared from files

I use Elements 2019 on Win10.

Just went to open up image files  stored locally on the PC and about 80% of them have disappeared. There's 10 or so files where there used to be 100+. These include purchased stock art and personal photos. All file types, mostly jpg, most psd files seem to still be there but so many are gone I don't know exactly what to look for. I haven't intentionally  updated or changed anything recently, but I did notice a green square with a white checkmark icon on the photos, I don't know what that was - it doesn't appear any more.  Thanks in advance for help!

Was that in your My Pictures folder?

Those could be backup status indicators if you're using a backup service such as Carbonite or Norton or similar.

We'd need a screenshot to confirm.

I didn't manage to get a screenshot before they disappeared, but I believe they were on the right hand side of the thumbnail. I don't use a backup service.

Are you using the Organizer or Windows Explorer?

Just file then open. I never bothered to figure out the organizer.
