Photoshop 2024 saving problem

I just installed Photoshop Elements 2024 on a Macbook pro running Sonoma 14.1. I'm seeing some differences from the version I was using previously (2020). When I try to do a SAVE AS, the save window ignores the previous SAVE AS setting (almost always jpeg) and opens with Photoshop option. After I change this, save the file as a jpeg, and try to quit, Elements insists on asking if I want it to overwrite the original file.

How do I get Elements 2024 to (a) keep the save as option I've chosen and (b) NOT ask to save after I've saved in my preferred format? I do not see any preference options that address these points. If I can't change this behavior, I'll go back to using the 2020 version.

In the camera raw dialog change the Depth from 16 Bits/Chaneel to 8 Bits/Channel.

Jeff,

Thanks. It worked. And there's no way I would have found this on my own.
