Question

Photoshop Elements 11 vs. 15

In 2010 I bought a Canon Rebel T1i.  (My first digital camera) Sometime later I bought Photoshop Elements 11 to help improve my pics. I shoot in RAW and was able do some great things with my images.  Recently I moved up to a Canon 80D.  Now when I shoot in RAW with my 80D Elements 11 will not accept my images.  It will still accept RAW images from the Rebel.  My question is if I move to Photoshop Elements 15 will it accept my RAW images from my 80D?  I checked the RAW/Camera compatibility chart and my Rebel requires 5.4 plug-in and 2.4 Light Room.  My 80D requires 9.5 plug-in and 6.5 Light Room.  I am not sure what the definition of "plug-In" is.  I really want to be able to work with my images in RAW format.   So what is your recommendation?

Thanks

Camera Raw is a plug-in installed with Photoshop Elements. It is automatically launched whenever you open a Raw file.

You've done the research on which version of the plug-in is required for your cameras.

The missing piece of the puzzle may be this table

Camera Raw plug-in and Adobe application compatibility

Elements 11 is compatible with Camera Raw up to version 7.4.

Elements 15 is compatible with Camera Raw up to version 9.10 (that's "nine point ten").

So Elements 11 can read Raw files from your T1i but not your 80D.

Elements 15 can read both Raw files.

That leaves you with a couple of options:

    1. Pay to upgrade to Elements 15 (or buy a new copy if it's cheaper) and edit all your Raw files in Elements 15, OR
    2. Download the free Adobe DNG converter, batch convert all 80D Raw files to DNG format. Then edit the DNG files (not the Raw files) in Elements 11. An extra step for you but no extra cost.

With option 2 you can still edit all your T1i Raw files in Elements 11 but you'll have to convert all your 80D Raw files to DNG before you can work on them in PSE11.
