Photoshop Elements 12

I bought a new camera and now when I try to open an image in RAW it won't work. It gives me the message of:

Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw. Please visit the Camera Raw help documentation for additional information.

Does this mean I need to update to a more current version of Photoshop? Or is there anything I can do without having to get a new version?

The relevant help is to be found in this faq:

FAQ: Will Photoshop Elements work with my camera, or Why won't my raw files open?

If you don't want to pay the upgrade to the latest Elements version, your free option is to download the Adobe DNGconverter mentioned in that faq.

That standalone program (not a plugin) is provided to convert recent raw files formats into the univeral DNG raw format that your elements versions and even older ones can read and edit.

You convert a whole folder of proprietary raw files to DNG files that your Elements version can read and edit.

A additional step but with the same quality, and free.
