When I click on the photo editor the main screen comes up and then I get the following error. "Photoshop Elements 12 Editor has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I am running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit.

Similar problem for me.  I never get the message that others in this forum are reporting, it just hangs up on me and I have to kill the program.  In the past I've been able to uninstall, then re-install and it works again for awhile.  That is no longer working for me.  I also tried renaming the files as suggested by dina'sforum.  I was able to open PSE12 again after doing that but then it immediately hung up again on me.  Perhaps Corel Draw is a better product.  PSE12 is great when it works, but unfortunately, it is no longer working for me.

I was also getting the same message that "Photoshop Elements 12 Editor has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."  This was under Window 7, SP1, 64 bit.  Apparently, the program is crashing due to a corrupt database(s) and the software cannot report the issue causing the problem.  Try the following:

Rename the following two files (ie, from filename.db3 to filename.old), and then re-launch Editor.  This will force the program to re-create those two files.

    C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\12.0\ThumbDatabase.db3

    C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\12.0\Locale\en_us\MediaDatabase.db3

It worked for me.  Other versions of Elements or other versions of Windows will probably be different.

Thank you Dina, that worked here as well (12.0)! It took forever to rebuild the databases, but it worked.

Well. I finally got support by finding out the toll free number in India (which was not listed anywhere on Adobe website). The person, Mark David, who attended my call was simply fantastic. It took time but he was persevering, called back three times and solved it. Not sure if you all will be lucky to get a person like him.

Anyway, this is what you can try. Uninstall and then reinstall PSE12.

Next, download and install Adobe Creative Cloud and see if it works

I have the same problem. The chat lines are useless. Nobody responds to the queries on the forum. I think I will get myself a pirated version of PSE 12 as I paid for the original but cannot use it anymore

I'm having this problem as well. Im running win 7  - 64 bit. I've only had the program a few days before geting the "windows has stopped working" error. I have tried the Ctrl+Shift+Alt to remove the preferances as suggested on the adobe troubleshooting site. Did not work.

I am really dissipointed in adobe, the "leader" in photo editing software, seams to just ignor this issue .

More about Photoshop Elements 13 not working:

When the program crashes and you select Debug mode, you get the following messages:

An unhandled Win32 exception occured in PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe [10340]

An unhandled Win32 exception occured in PhotoshopElementsEdit.exe [7428]

I wonder why these are Win32 exceptions if I am supposed to be using 64-bit software in a Win-64 machine???

I had exactly the same problem, except I did get the following error message under Elements 12:

Extension Manager 6.0.8 Update Installation Failed. Error Code: U44M1P7

I got no help from Adobe so I decided to upgrade to Elements 13.

Guess what - neither the Editor nor the Organizer now work on Elements 13.

I just get a message saying the program has stopped working and Windows is trying to figure out the problem.

    A wasted $79.99

I am running Win 7 Pro 64-bit and made sure I was downloading the 64-bit version of Elements.

I guess Adobe is trying to make it impossible to use their stand alone software!
