Photoshop Elements 14 Fails to Open

After 21 months of the application running on my MAC (OS 10.11.6) it stopped working today. When I attempt to open the application the icon changes and I get a screen that says my trial has expired for the most recent version. To my knowledge I never started a trial.

The system requirements for 14 indicate MAC OS 10.9 and 10.10. Has a trigger been activated to stop working on 10.11? The application still seems to be working on my backup laptop which is slightly more current.

Am I done on the older system?
