photoshop elements 14 How to adjust blank space round images when printing photos

My computer is Win10, 64 bit. PSE is in Expert mode.

I want to print these 2 photos on one sheet. But PSE has added too much white space.

How can I increase the height of the photos to fit inside the printer's margins?

How can I reduce the vertical space between them?

And when I tried to print what appears on the screen capture, the dialog changed to "Individul Prints", and nothing was printed.

 

 

On the editing screen the 2 photos are shown

When I change the setting, neither are shown.

I cannot find any way to select both the photos simultaneously.

I also cannot find a way to create a new layer on one of the photos, then put the image of the other in the new layer.

See the correct and smart answer from @Glenn 8675309 

Forget a moment about trying to define prints margins and the like by commands issued by your Editor or Organizer to your OS, which will interpret them and issue other commands to your particular print driver, resulting in combined single photo (a virtual collage) which will be printed on a chosen paper size.

Think creating the collage yourself, the final image in the chosen paper format.

1 - Create the canvas with the correct format size. Tip: create and saves the formats you are using most frequently.

2 - Open the photos you want in the "collage" in the editor.

3 - Drag them over the blank canvas

4 - move them, resize them, rotate them, overlap them at will.

5 - print them just choosing the paper size.

other tip: save the result in jpeg for possible reprints, or in tiff/psd if you want to adjust the results later.

Final tip:

Now that you understand that you are not playing on margins but creating a manual collage, you might as well use the guided edits to create a collage?

Technical tip: If you have done only the above steps without "simplifying" your different layers, those layers are "smart layers". That means that if you save the result as a layered tiff or psd file, a copy of the original included photos is saved. So, if you have chosen a canvas to print a 4" x 6" paper, you can also print to a much bigger paper size without any loss because the "smart layers" will be recalculated from the original photos.

I rarely print photos on my home printer any more.  After seeing @Glenn 8675309's screenshot, I had to do some more experimentation.  Glenn, can you confirm that your screenshot is from the Organizer and not the Editor?  (I have always known that the print engine used in each program is different but wasn't aware of all of the differences in how they operate.)  So, here are some of my findings:

• Unless Glenn tells us that his screenshot is from the Editor, I don't think it is possible to print more than one photo per page in the Editor without creating a collage of two photos in one document;
• If you attempt to use the Picture Package or Contact Sheet options in the Editor, you will be asked if you want to proceed in the Organizer, and will be taken there;
• In the Organizer print dialog, the Picture Package has many options that are dependent on the size of the paper for printing, and the number and size of the photos you want to print.
• As (I believe) Glenn's screenshot shows, the Organizer allows you to print more than one photo on a page using the Individual Print option.  The size and layout of the images printed on the page depends on the size of the page, and the size of the printed images.  If you use this option and there is not enough room to print your photos on one page, the remaining photos will be printed on the following page(s).

So, if you select two or more photos in the Organizer and choose the Print command, they will all be arranged for printing according to the last used print settings.  It is possible to change the settings and new calculations for the print will be made.  In the following screenshot, I have been able to almost fill a page of A4 paper with the photo print size set at 5x7.   Note that the top photo will not fill a 5x7 aspect ratio and there would be some  additional white space at the edges if the photo were placed in a 5x7 photo frame.  However, using the Crop to Fit option zooms/crops the photos to fill the empty space.

The white space around the photos in your first post is 100% printer dependant-- what does that mean?  That space has nothing to with photoshop elements, and has everything to do with your printer software. 

You may not have the correct type of print selected.

This is the easiest way:
(Assuming you want both photos on the same printed page) Just make a canvas the size you need to display the two photos and put both photos on one canvas.

@CVHManchester, I just took a look at your Organizer print settings again.  These may be dependent on your printer, but I was able to choose a package that fills an A4 page more than your original screenshot.  I assume your photos are from a phone, so the dimensions may be different.  But see if my settings shown below make any difference for you.

I also tried the eLive server in Elements 14 and got the same result as you.  Either the server is down or perhaps the eLive service has been discontinued for earlier versions of Elements.  It is no longer used in more recent versions.  I will ask Adobe about it.

One other point - Elements doesn't do well with use on multiple monitors. 

I haven't had time to create a video tutorial for you yet, but the basic instructions you need to customize a document containing two photos for printing is the following:

• Create a new document with the dimensions of the page you wish to print.
• Open the two files for printing in the Editor.
• With the blank new file active, click and drag the thumbnails of the two photos from the Photo Bin to the blank file.  Each photo will become a new layer in the document
• Use the move tool to position the photos on the page
• Resize the photos using the handles of its layer

@CVHManchester, try checking the Crop to Fit box.  It should reduce the borders around the images with your settings. 

You can only print more than one image to a page using the Organizer.  For printing in the Editor, you need to create a collage of two photos on the page so that you can print a single page.  I will try to create a video tutorial to show you how to do this.
