Photoshop Elements 15 on Win 10 Suddenly Can't Use Type Tool

I've searched the forums and attempted what I could find, but I am still getting the message that the 'text engine could not be initialized', preventing any use of the type tool. I've done nothing to change my installation, which was working fine when I last used it a few days ago.

Help

Did you rename the normal.dotm file in C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates to normal.dotm_old and restarted the computer

I rolled back Windows 10 to before the recent upgrade (a week or two ago), and the type tool works again.

It looks as if the Win 10 upgrade did 'something' to PS Elements 12.

(Rolling back was a pain as the reset stopped the anti-virus working, which had to be re-installed...)

I run windows 8. I am having what, I think, is a similar problem. I have been trying to make a Watermark. When I go to T, it brings up the various settings for T but refuses to let me type anything in the box.

If the issue persists after following the steps mentioned in help article Error message when using the Text tool , please check if you get any error when you select any font in MS word, if that happens, it might be due to corrupt normal template file. To fix it follow the following steps:

    • Go to C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates. (You may type %appdata% in search box and then get to Microsoft>Templates. )
    • rename Normal template (Normal.dotm) to Normal.dotm_old.

    Hope it helps.

    Thanks and regards

Hello. I've tried all the steps mentioned, as well as that suggested in the other post, and the issue remains. As soon as I try to use the type tool, I receive the same error message. If I try to change the font using the drop down menu at the bottom of the screen, Photoshop Elements crashes.
